It is immediately followed by "Nuit de mes rêves'," on which Chenut and Geffray share vocal duties in their native tongue. You'd be hard pressed to actually dance to it, but it makes for a riveting headphone experience. Chloé appears on dirge-like "Closer," the track's funeral timbre perfectly fitting her too-fucked-to-even-leave-the-couch-to-sing tones. That said, the darker Scratch Massive get, the more alluring they become. Nuit de Rêve is their third album, and even though it won't do much to attract new fans, it is tuneful and committed enough to satisfy their current fans. Yet despite a few underground hits such as "Seeing Is Believing" and "Make It High" in the mid-00s, their biggest claim to fame at this point may just be a spot on an Ivan Smagghe mix CD. Together as Scratch Massive, French couple Maud Geffray and Sébastien Chenut have been making electro-tinged slo-motion house since 1999. Scratch Massive draws the outline of an electronic music in search of redemption - reinventing their icy grooves and confronting it with a naive elegance and a disillusioned romanticism that embodies our time. The lyrics speak to the depths of the soul, covering a range of emotion from love, emotions, and fears. On first glance, Garden of Love, appears to be an invitation to love and peace, however, nothing is ever that simple, as the album cover evokes a multitude of interpretations. Like a ghost train moving along a tightrope - between shadow and light, failure and redemption, violence and melancholy - this fourth studio album reaffirms the Parisian DJ/Producer duo style/vibe with their hybrid sounds and sensory experiences. Virtuoso compositions, subtle synthetic atmospheres, voices oscillating, Garden of Love, the new album by electro duo Scratch Massive makes an impression from the first moments that you hear its enigmatic beauty.
